The checklist your provider should be able to show you

You pay for maintenance and you see nothing. That is normal, and it is also the problem. Ask one question: can you show me what you checked last month? If the answer is a shrug, you are paying a standing order, not buying a service. Here is the checklist, published so you can hold anyone to it. Including us.

Every day

  • The site is awake: every page that matters answers, checked by a machine. Not just the home page. An inner page can be dead for weeks while the home page looks fine.
  • Backups: taken daily AND tested by actually restoring one. A backup nobody has ever restored is a hope, not a backup.
  • The contact form: a test message goes in and arrives. Forms fail silently. An empty inbox looks exactly like a quiet week.

Every week

  • Software updates: the system behind the site and its add-ons patched, with the risky ones tried somewhere safe first.
  • The padlock and the domain: the browser padlock (the SSL certificate) confirmed valid, with its renewal verified rather than assumed.
  • Google's messages: Search Console read for new errors, warnings, or anything odd. Google tells site owners when something is wrong. Somebody has to be listening.

Every month

  • A note to you: what was checked, what was fixed, what changed. In plain English, in writing. If nothing broke, the note says so. Proof of quiet is still proof.
  • Speed: how long a phone waits for the site, measured and compared with last month. Sites drift slower; someone should notice.
  • Who has keys: admin accounts reviewed. Departed staff and mystery users removed.

Every quarter

  • AI visibility: when someone asks ChatGPT or Google's AI results for a business like yours, somebody gets named. The machine-readable groundwork that decides whether it can be you, checked and compared with last quarter. The newest item on the list, and the one almost nobody's provider is doing. Here is what is actually checkable.

Ten minutes will tell you if this is your site.
